82nd Southport Flower Show

The Southport Flower Show first started in 1924, and with only a few years break (for other more important activities during the early 1940s!) has been held every year since. This year marks the 82nd time the doors have been thrown open to the public.

 

Because carrying loads of shopping around for half a day is no-one’s idea of fun, our three Plant Crèche and Left Luggage locations provide much-needed relief for hundreds of visitors, and help us raise funds for our charitable activities.

We ask our customers to make a donation when they leave their goods with us, and this forms an important part of the money we raise locally. But there is more to it than just the money. Tens of thousands of the general public see that Lions is an organisation which sets out to do practical things to help, and this is something which many appreciate. Each year we receive additional donations from people who don’t use our facilities, and dozens will tell us how they are members of Lions, or have been involved in projects with Lions, or have received some benefit from Lions.

At the end of the day, when the muscles begin to ache a bit, these snippettes make it all worthwhile!

So, it is time for a big THANK YOU to all those who put money in our buckets. And a big THANK YOU to our colleagues from neighbouring Lions Clubs, and our volunteers, who made this possible. And a big THANK YOU to Southport Flower Show, without whose support none of this would happen!
